Closet Staples to Invest In

Closet Staples to Invest In

Over the past few years, I’ve found myself throwing out and donating the trendier styles and poly-blended fabrics in my closet and finding more room for items that I can invest in that I’ll be wearing for decades. By now you’ve probably heard about capsule wardrobes. I love the concept, and although that’s not my exact method of clothes buying now, I do like the idea of a “less is more” mentality. When I buy something, I try and imagine whether I’ll be wearing it for years to come and whether it will work and be classic for all seasons of my life, not just today. Here are a few of my favorite items that get the most wear and that I believe “complete” any closet.

High quality denim
If you’re still wearing low-rise, high stretch, low compression jeans… your life will forever change when you invest in a pair of denim that makes your body (& booty!) look it’s best! Especially postpartum… girl, a good pair of jeans are your best friend! Here are few of my favorites!

Denim Jacket
A truly timeless staple. No matter the season or the occasion, a denim jacket can add a finishing touch to any outfit. It can make a pair of shorts and a tshirt look pulled together and thought out. Or, it can make an otherwise glamorous maxi dress look casual and cool. Here are some of my favs!

White Button Down
Whether you wear it tucked into pants or a skirt at work, tied over a casual dress, or with denim on a Saturday, the white button down is a staple item any woman needs in her closet! You’ll find yourself wearing it dozens of ways! Here are a few of my favs!

Cloth & Stone Emma Buttondown
Old Navy Relaxed Classic Shirt for Women

Slip on Mules
For all of my ballet flat lovers, the mule is the more sophisticated, more polished, more comfortable (in my opinion) option. Slip on mules look great with denim, skirts, dresses… and they are truly a classic piece that you’ll have for years! Although not an investment piece, the third option below is SO GOOD. I picked these up this year, they’re from Walmart and are only $9. So comfortable!

Madewell Remi Mules

Compression High Waist Leggings
Again, calling all my postpartum mamas! Leggings are your best friend! They’re so cute with a tshirt, cardigan, and boots, or dressed down with a sporty or graphic tshirt and tennis shoes. Just so many options! And if you get a pair that you love and are comfortable, you’ll use them for years! Here area a few of my current favs. The first one is HANDS DOWN the best. They’re high compression, they don’t fade, and they’re super high quality!
Zella Live In High Waist Leggings
Aerie Play Real Me High Waisted Leggings
Spanx Faux Leather Leggings

There a few honorable mentions that should be included in this list. Including slip on Converse All Star sneakers, striped t-shirts, and of course, a good little black dress. What items have you invested in recently that are your absolute favorites?

I bought a pair of exercise shorts from Academy the other day that can also be worn as a dressier, relaxed short as well. Under $15 and they have deep pockets! Definitely a closet staple for me now.
